About Young Pride Club
Established in 2018, YPC emerged from a significant landmark when over 20 transgender students, including the founder of YPC, rallied against Chiang Mai University’s restrictions on wearing gender-identified uniforms. Their tenacious online campaign amassed over 2,000 supporters, culminating in a historic moment where these students became the pioneers to wear uniforms matching their gender identity during their graduation. This victory not only sparked a nationwide discourse on transgender rights in Thai higher education but also marked the inception of the Young Pride Club.
YPC, a trans and youth-led initiative, has since been at the forefront of championing LGBTQ+ rights. We provide inclusive and accessible online content, workshops, and activities to empower LGBTQ+ youth to ascend as leaders. Collaborating with youth leaders, we aim to foster LGBTQ+ communities and embolden them to address challenges, engage in solution-oriented dialogues, and actively participate in policy-making.
Our commitment extends to nurturing relationships among youth leaders, facilitating joint movements, sharing resources, and exploring avenues for collaborative communication, especially in the realm of higher education. Annually, we orchestrate events to showcase the efforts of LGBTQ+ youth leaders from across Thailand, connecting them with pivotal supporters, activists, and organizations.
Since 2020, under the Young LGBTIQAN+ Club Project, we’ve been cultivating the leadership skills of LGBTIQ+ youth across Thailand. This initiative has equipped them with the tools to counteract gender discrimination and support LGBTQ+ movements in their locales. Our efforts have resulted in the inception of groups like Trans Rise Group, TRAnsMan Peers, Not Too Late to Be Equal, and Sapphic Pride.
In 2022, we pioneered the “Youth Pride Thailand” event – the first of its kind, exclusively organised by and for LGBTIQ+ youth. This collaborative endeavour, supported by the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and youth rights organisations, witnessed participation from over 500 individuals. Moreover, our research, in tandem with the Manushya Foundation, highlighted the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth in Thai universities, making significant strides in the UPR recommendations related to SOGIESC.
As YPC marches forward, our vision remains unwavering – to advance LGBTIQ+ rights, foster inclusivity, and empower the next wave of leaders.
Vision
The LGBTIQ+ youth and allies in Thailand have full, equal, and meaningful participation in policy-making and problem-solving mechanisms to support the rights of LGBTQ+ persons and diversity and inclusion in higher education in Thailand.
